Tree School

Tree School at Fodor Farm

The Signature Education Program of the Norwalk Tree Alliance

About Tree School

In 2018, we partnered with the Norwalk Board of Education to design an integrated science curriculum that provides outdoor-based and wonder-filled experiences for Norwalk’s youngest students. Tree School has since provided a unique outdoor learning program to over 200 first grade students in Norwalk public schools.

Tree School Curriculum

Visits to Fodor Farm in the Fall, Winter, and Spring provide students with valuable and fun lessons about trees that align with Next Generation Science Standards.

Norwalk students have the opportunity to:

plant tree saplings
measure trees
compare mature trees with their offspring
note shadows in each season
learn about mushrooms
meet an expert on bees and cross pollination
and more!

Due to the success of our 2018-2019 pilot program with Columbus Magnet School, we expanded our Tree School educational program to include Brookside School for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Tree School Goes Virtual

Trees adapt to different climates – so do our educators

We continue to support Norwalk public schools as we help children learn outdoors. In response to COVID-19 education adjustments worldwide, our Education Committee adapted our integrated Tree School curriculum for distance learning.

Help your child get outdoors by downloading our fun at-home activity. We are grateful for the generosity of Groundworks Bridgeport in sharing their educational resources with the NTA.

We are excited about this new phase of our our signature education program and look forward to supporting Norwalk teachers for years to come.
